The quality of this reissue is top notch, BRAND X has done an amazing job honoring JEFF PHILLIPS with these decks. It is obvious that great care was taken in crafting these works of art. Plus, this graphic is one of the most important concerning the connection between skateboarding and graffiti. The graphic was designed by DOZE TC5 aka DOZE GREEN who is also known for his ground breaking work on the NYC subways in the late 70s and early 80s. He is one of a handful of writers who truly pioneered something new on the subway lines of NYC, his mugsy character. This B-BOY character has been duplicated by writers and artists all around the world to such lengths it has become a cliche in hip hop. More at www.skateboardsandgraffiti.com. The only disappointment I got from this deck was that his signature in the top of the subway car on the nose is hard to make out from the screen printing process. You can find the name DOZE in the graphic but its muddy. Either way, this deck is an excellent tribute to a radical Texas rider and a radical NYC writer.
